Celtic lost the services of Gary Hooper in the summer after the striker joined Premier league outfit Norwich on a £5.2 million deal. However, the club has now been relegated to the championship. This has put his future in England on major doubt. Hooper has not been able to score the goals required to keep the club in the division. Now, they are understood to be looking at a buyer for the striker since his massive wages will be a major detrimental factor towards the club’s financial position in the Championship.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has stated that striker Neil Griffiths should change his attitude and clean-up his thoughts if he wants to stay with Celtic for the future. Griffiths was recently involved in the Edinburgh derby in which the striker was caught on camera singing songs against Hearts.
This has caused a lot of controversy and it is ideally not what Celtic would have wanted towards the end of the campaign. The club has just sealed the league title for yet another year, while they are looking to build on the success for next season.
There were a lot of sceptics when Celtic managed to get Neil Griffiths from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £ 800,000. The striker was viewed as a replacement for Gary Hooper, who was allowed to join Premier league outfit Norwich city in the summer. Hooper had been the main source of goals for Celtic in recent years.
Kris Commons is coming close to the end of his contract with Celtic, but manager Neil Lennon says that the 30-year-old will extend his spell at the club by committing to a new contract.
Commons has been a Celtic player since January 2011 when he moved to the club after signing a 3 1/2 year deal. Now that it is about to expire, the player has stated his intention is to remain at Celtic Park beyond this season. Commons was brought to the club for just £ 300,000 from Derby County. He has managed to get 21 goals in just 33 matches this campaign.
Georgios Samaras might be leaving Celtic FC soon. The Spanish club Atletico Madrid and the Turkish club Trabzonspor are in race to secure his services and he is believed to be making his way to either of these two clubs in a few days’ time.
Atletico had been in touch with Samaras’ agent since a long time and the two parties had almost reached an agreement, but, just a couple of days back, Trabzonspor has come with a luring offer which has forced the Greek player to think a bit.
Celtic is all set to end the signing of striker Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson. According to reports, the twenty year old has accorded personal conditions on a 3 year deal and would officially join when January transfer window opens.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has laid an ambitious plan of getting the club into the second place of the group in the Champions league. Celtic have been drawn along with some of the biggest names in world football like Barcelona and Milan for the Champions league group stages for this season.
Ajax are the other team in the group and between these three teams, there is more than 15 Champions league titles. This means that Celtic are the underdogs going into the campaign and they lived up to the billing by suffering a 2-0 defeat in the opening match of the season against AC Milan.
Celtic are in danger of losing striker Gary Hooper before the end of the transfer window due to persistent links with the likes of Norwich city and QPR over the last few months. Hooper has been one of the best players for Celtic over the last three years.
He has been the top scorer for the club in all the seasons, but he has been a traveller throughout his career. Hence, it is extremely likely that he may join a Premier league club before the end of the transfer window. Lennon, though, is still holding hope that he will be able to persuade Hooper to stay at the Scottish club.
Former Scottish player Bertie Auld has said that manager Neil Lennon should not be looking at leaving Celtic in the summer. Neil Lennon recently managed to guide Celtic to yet another league title, while they also made it into the knockout stages of the Champions League as well.
The crowning achievement of the former player will undoubtedly be the back-to-back titles in the Scottish first division and also the Scottish cup this season. As a result of the three trophies won in the last two years, Celtic will now be looking to consolidate their position in European competitions.
The Celtic manager Neil Lennon said after the 3-2 defeat at the hands of St Mirren that he had just seen one of the worst displaced by the Celtic team under his regime. Celtic were recently knocked out of the League Cup in the semi-final stage by St Mirren.
